Work Package 1 - Project Management

Objectives

  • To ensure the co-ordination of all the activities among the project partners
  • To co-ordinate and adjust the workplan and timetable with ADA

Deliverables

  • Bi-annual technical and financial reports for end June and December
  • Final technical and financial reports
  • Minutes of Steering Committee meetings

Work Package 2 - Kick-off workshops in RSA

Objectives

  • To structure the work programme in detail  
  • To inform stakeholders about the project and their possible involvement

Deliverables

  • Agenda and minutes of kick-off meeting 
  • Detailed time schedule of overall project

Work Package 3 - Market and Monitoring

Objectives

  • To gain knowledge on current solar water heating and solar thermal applications,  previous work and market development in all partner countries
  • To gain knowledge on performance of typical solar water heating and solar thermal systems installed in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe

Deliverables

  • Market reports for partner countries according to international standard format
  • Six-monthly reports on monitoring results
  • Country reports on monitoring results with recommendations for improvements

Work Package 4 - Training

Objectives

  • To improve solar water heating and solar thermal systems produced in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe
  • To enhance the cooperation of solar water heating and solar thermal companies to develop a regional marke

Deliverables

  • Documentation and detailed description of improvements made by companies in each participating country
  • Documentation of cooperation activities of solar water heating and solar thermal companies in the participating countries

Work Package 5 - Assistance to Producers

Objectives

  • To improve solar water heating and solar thermal systems produced in South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe
  • To enhance the cooperation of solar water heating and solar thermal companies to develop a regional marke

Deliverables

  • Documentation and detailed description of improvements made by companies in each participating country
  • Documentation of cooperation activities of solar water heating and solar thermal companies in the participating countries

Work Package 6 - Install, Monitor SWHs: Social Institutions

Objectives

  • The installation of about 50 improved demonstration systems
  • Reduced running energy costs and/or improved hygienic standard at social institutions like hospitals, orphanages, homes for the elderly etc

Deliverables

  • Application forms including about 50% co-funding
  • 50 to 60 systems installed, monitored and documented over the three-year project period

Work Package 7 - Awareness & PR Campaign

Objectives

  • To disseminate information to public and key groups like social institutions, house owners, housing stakeholders, hotels and political decision-makers about the potential of solar water heating and solar thermal systems

Deliverables

  • Leaflets, brochures
  • Information stand at trade fairs
  • Papers presented at congresses
  • Web-based information

Work Package 8 External Evaluation

Objectives

  • To review the project to evaluate attainment of project goals
  • To review successful and sustainable implementation of overall project

Deliverables

  • Mid-term review report
  • Final report
